Auto Injury/Work Injury Care
If you’ve been in an accident, you won’t know right away how extensive your injuries are. In a car crash, your entire body can be affected, showing itself in different ways in the weeks and months to come. You may get whiplash. Your knee can strike the wheel. Your wrist might be hyperextended. The seatbelt, though necessary to save your life, can cause low back pain and pelvis pain.
Concussion, contusion, TMJ dysfunction, PTSD, sleep issues and brain trauma are all commonly experienced after a motor vehicle accident. At Alton Chiropractic, we have the experience and knowledge to diagnose you, get the proper documentation and make sure you get the care you need.
We’ll Make Sure You Get the Attention You Need
Dr. Holland will assess you structurally and functionally. If you require any other practitioner’s assistance, we will point you in the right direction. We have the experience to know when something is out of our scope and will refer you out when needed. We’re always happy to co-manage your case with other doctors, too.
Don’t Overlook the Mental Aspects of Your Accident
Everyone knows that their body can be seriously damaged in an accident. What most don’t consider, however, is the toll an accident can take on your mental health. You can’t sleep, which means you’re fatigued during the day. Depression is common, as well as an inability to work or complete your activities of daily living. You’ll find that you don’t enjoy your favorite activities like you used to or are unable to do them at all.
We’ll work with your individual goals to get you back to doing what you want, whether it’s participating in a sport, holding your grandchild or going shopping by yourself.
In the first 72 hours, it’s essential that you’re checked by a chiropractor. This is the inflammation phase. If we can reduce swelling while you’re in this stage, it will do a great deal to alleviate your pain. We have TENS units and electrical muscle stimulation available. Along with BioFreeze®, you’ll notice a tremendous difference. We don’t recommend our patients take over-the-counter anti-inflammatory drugs because they have a tendency to slow down the healing process.
The next stage is repair. Your body will heal no matter what-the question is, will it heal in the right way? We can make sure that your body isn’t laying down scar tissue that will reduce your future range of motion. By keeping you in alignment, everything will function as it should during the repair phase.
Finally, you’ll enter the remodeling phase. This phase typically occurs after about 2-3 months of care. You’ll finally be ready to start strengthening your weakened areas with stretches and exercises. We’ll compare how you’re doing now to your results when you first presented, showing you your progress in regaining your health.
If your child was in a car accident, it’s essential to their current and future health that we check them over. A child’s head is proportionally larger to their body than that of an adult. Additionally, they have less muscle development. Without the full musculoskeletal development that an adult has, children are more likely to be injured, particularly in their neck.
With your personal injury case, you need doctors who understand how to properly document your case and represent you in court. Dr. Holland has years of experience in both of these aspects of care. If your attorney needs notes from us, we’ll provide them at no charge. These fees are typically taken out of your settlement and can run surprisingly high. There won’t be any cost for your records at Alton Chiropractic.
Do you take insurance? Will you work with my attorney?
Yes. We’ll be happy to work with your insurance company and your attorney. ?
The paperwork for an accident is the same as that for a regular new patient. You can fill these forms out ahead of time by finding them on our website, downloading and printing them.
Yes. We can provide you with a second opinion similar to what an independent medical evaluator would do.
There are numerous forms of testing we utilize for accident patients. For example, ligament injuries are often overlooked. We can do flexion extension studies called AOMSI, which is a particular form of X-ray to see if you have ligament injuries in your neck. We can also send you out for an MRI, CT, blood work, pain management or to see a specialist such as an orthopedist, neurologist, optometrist or podiatrist.
